The YSP Summer Focus Writing course is a 7-week program designed to give Summer Focus students the basic information necessary to write a paper in the style of a journal article. A variety of topics are covered, including the format and basic content of a scientific article, oral presentation strategies, science comminication to non-scientists, and college essay writing.
Each hour-long class is divided into halves. The first half of the class is a lecture following the attached notes, which are printed and given to the students. During the second half of the class, students break into groups of 3-4 students and one YSP volunteer and discuss their summer projects. Guidelines for discussion leaders are below.
